ETCETERA wm Spotlight on design The New Delhi-based Indian Institute of Art and Design hosted a Design Spotlight webinar on new-age career streams and growth opportunities. Vinodita Sankhyan, Principal of Shri Ram Ashram Public School, Amritsar, helped the students understand the dynamics of the industry in light of the current pandemic and how to navigate its challenges. Sachin Pasricha, Head-Placement Cell at IAD, said, "Such interactions help students better understand the avenues that are open to them and how to best make use of their education." m Online induction at IIM-Kozhikode The 13th batch of the Executive Post-Graduate Programme of the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode saw over 500 candidates being inducted into the one-year programme. With diverse backgrounds in commerce, management, science and technology, there was a 40% increase in admissions. The second batch of the Post-Graduate Programme in Business Leadership had a mix of professionals from Manufacturing, IT, Banking & Financial and Healthcare with over 30% representation from women. The induction ceremony was conducted virtually. ms Symposium on Inclusion and Sustainability IFMR Graduate School of Business (GSB) at Krea University organised a research symposium on Inclusion and Sustainability. Eminent speakers, researchers and practitioners from India, the U.S., the U.K. Singapore, New Zealand, Switzerland and other countries shared their research findings through seminars, distinguished lectures and events and brought multiple perspectives and ways of moving forward to the discussion. The symposium touched upon themes such as Financial Inclusion, Sustainable Finance, FinTech, and Digital Inclusion. # Orientation Programme at Satyam Group Satyam Group of Institutions organised an orientation programme for their B.A (Mass Media) 2020-23 and B.Ed 20-22 batch. The objective was to give the new students information about their chosen discipline and familiarise them with the various resources at the institute. The speakers highlighted the pre-requisites for and the scope and challenges of Journalism and Mass Communication and Education as Careers and advised the students on how to be professionals in today's challenging world. m BC signs MoU with Karnataka The British Council has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State of Karnataka to further bilateral cooperation in higher education between the State and the U.K. This will facilitate collaborative and mutually beneficial programmes in Karnataka and contribute to increased research and social linkages in the field of Higher Education between the two entities. Student mobility and faculty exchange across higher education institutions (HEIs) in Karnataka and the U.K. is a key priority to enhance research and support internationalisation of HEIs. British Council will also deliver a host of programmes aimed at improving English proficiency of students, thereby creating greater employability opportunities for them. m Coursera learner trends in 2020 Online Learning platform Coursera shared trends in learning from the past year, which showed that learners in India were turning to job-relevant skills in a remote-working world. Python, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning continued to be the top tech skills and soft skills and personal development courses also became popular. The most popular courses on Coursera highlighted that learners in India are striving to develop the critical tech, business and data skills and simultaneously gain control of their mental health. Wm Focus on conserving heritage Kautilya School of Public Policy, Hyderabad (affiliated to the Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management), signed an MoU with Heritage Beku to create opportunities and experiential activities for public policy students in the field of heritage conservation and protection. The partnership is focused on building a Long-term relationship by facilitating guest lectures, heritage walks, interaction with governmental and non-governmental organisations, policy-making activities, student internships and much more. This was followed by a heritage walk that aimed to create awareness of the need for robust policy in conservation. m Top ranking The 123-year-old Scindia School has been rated the Best Boys' Boarding School in India in the annual Education World India School Rankings (EWISR) for 2020-21. The school has worked to create a safe environment for children once it reopens, said Vice-Principal Smita Chaturvedi, and outlined the steps taken for the child's stay, the classrooms, the dining area, the hygiene in the washrooms, among other aspects. m Technical conclave BML Munjal University (BMU), hosted a virtual technical conclave on "Industry 4.0 and Smart Autonomous Technologies" in December 2020. This was conceptualised and organised by the School of Engineering and Technology (SoET). Senior industry leaders, scientists and change makers from the technology and IoT sector including leading academicians from across the country participated in four thematic sessions and offered insights and perspectives to the students and faculty members. They also shared their views on contemporary topics covering including loT, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, robotics and automation. ms National award Kishinchand Chellaram College, Mumbai, received a National Award conferred by Microbiologists Society, India, for being one of the top three colleges for Microbiology in India. KC College is now a constituent of the HSNC University and its department of Microbiology was established in 1977. The college offers both graduate and post-graduate courses in the subject and has been contributing to the field of microbiology over the past four decades.
