TOPS for women's hockey team
New Delhi: In an encouraging development for the Indian women's hockey team, all the squad members are set to be included in the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) when the review committee will identify a core group for the government-funded programme, next month. The men's hockey team are already covered under TOPS and according to sources the women's team will soon be rewarded for their impressive silver medal finish at the 18th Asian Games.
IVvo amputees for Raid de Himalaya: In a global first, two am-
putees, Vinod Rawat of Mumbai and Ashok Munne of Nagpur, will compete on motorbikes in the world's highest rally raid, the Raid de Himalaya, this year.
The Raid is considered among
the top 10 toughest rallies of the world.
I t will take off from Leh on October 8 this year, and finish on October 14. Ovef-200 competitors will race over some of the most challenging roads in the Kargil, Zanskar and Ladakh sectors.
Haryana dominate U-23 wrestling: Haryana wrestlers yet again dominated the U-23 National Wrestling Championships as their men won four out of 10 gold medals, mostly in heavier weight categories of the freestyle events, in Chit-torgarh on Sunday.
They also managed to win a silver and four bronze medals to get to the top of the medal tally and clinch the overall championships title.
Haryana logged 195 points with Delhi closely behind them at 165 points and Maharashtra coming at the third spot with 139 points. AGENCIES
